2022 National Poison Prevention Week

Each year Mold-Rite Packaging collaborates with the National Poison Prevention Week Council to help spread the word about poison prevention. With more of us staying home this year, there’s never been a more crucial time to ensure our families are informed about how to prevent accidental poisoning when it comes to common household products. In fact, many of the items that exist in our own homes can be dangerous when used improperly.  And while smart packaging and closure design is one great way to prevent accidental poisoning, there are steps you can take at home to help keep your family safe, including: 

• Keeping potentially dangerous products in the original packaging. 
• Storing medicines and household products where children cannot see or reach them.  Locked cupboards are preferred.  
• Reading the label. Following the directions on medicines and products. 
• Saving the number in your phone.  If you think someone has been poisoned, call your poison center (or call poison control) right away – 1-800-222-1222.   

This year’s National Poison Prevention Week Video Contest focused on getting the word out about these helpful safety tips. Students in grades 5-12 were invited to submit a video illustrating the ways we can prevent poisoning.  The video contest winners were awarded a cash prize and invited to participate in an online award ceremony during National Poison Prevention Week, March 20-26, 2022.
